5 Free Christmas Events you must Attend in Sydney

I’ve searched high and low for some great FREE events being held in Sydney to help you celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

Christmas is such a fabulous time, but it can also be a hard time for many people.

With so many bills to be paid, the costs of entertaining the family for Christmas rising and of course there’s the Christmas present shopping; which we all tell ourselves we won’t go over budget and do every year.

So, I tracked down some pretty fab FREE Christmas events, where you don’t have to spend a cent, to go out and enjoy the the festivities, without the stress of having no cash.

Market City Virtual Experience:

Put on a virtual reality (VR) headset and transport yourself to a winter wonderland at Market City. This game is a Candy Cane Fight VR re-imagines the retail hub to scale where Frosty the Snowman’s younger brother, Grumpy, is attempting to destroy Christmas in the ultimate showdown. Players are tasked with defeating a 10-foot snowman to save Christmas across 3 levels of gameplay, and compete for up to $30,000 in prizes up for grabs – daily.

The Joy is Real at The Galeries:

The Galeries is inviting shoppers to immerse themselves into their glittering celebration of all things Christmas.

Transforming into a wonderland of shimmer, each laneway on the ground floor will be decked in sculptural tinsel drops, hanging high at 30 metres above avid Christmas shoppers. Setting the artistic tone for the perfect Instagramable moment this Christmas.

The epic Tinsel Selfie Station designed by tinsel maven and multidisciplinary artist, Rachel Burke is a must-see! Handcrafted, and bespoke to The Galeries, shoppers are invited to get Instagram-happy. A Fairytale Christmas at the QVB:

The QVB has opened it’s doors to a ‘A Fairytale Christmas.’ Visit the centerpiece of Christmas in the City, the Swarovski Christmas tree. 24 meters tall, spanning 3 floors, covered in 100,000 crystal ornaments and 65,000 lights. On level 2, the QVB Enchanted Garden welcomes visitors amongst blooming wildflowers, woodland creatures and spell binding lights to see Santa Claus.

Christmas Workshop:

Transform your old shoes and help create a Christmas tree succulent sculpture. The Christmas Reboot is a workshop designed to help creates a festive work of live art. At each of the workshops, you’ll work with local artist Sarah Betts aka Sharky to transform the old shoes into pot plants for succulents. The shoes will then be added to the collaborative sculpture tree which will be on display in the reading garden throughout December.

Christmas Bauble at World Square:

Take a snap of yourself with the Giant Bauble at World Square and you could win one of thousands of prizes being given our daily. The Square will be lit up with a giant illuminated Christmas bauble for you to stand inside of and capture your festive moment.
