No matter how many beauty products I receive, try, test and explore, I always return to several of my favourites, these are some of those.
Essential beauty items are a must, but there’s something to be said for the confidence you feel when using a reliable product you can always return to, after trying out something new.
I have so several beauty products which have over the years, become essential to my beauty kit, developing a strong connection with the brand, the products and how well it delivers, making it sometimes hard to stay with something new, no matter how good that new product is.
Of course, writing beauty for Bondi Beauty has some incredible perks, where I receive an unprecendeted amount if beauty products each month to trial and write about. But, I always find myself whipping out the familiars when in a rush, having a bad day, or needing some confidence in a product I know will just work how I want it.
We really don’t like change do we.
Let me tell you a quick story. For more than ten years, I had been using the same foundation by Australis. I used it because it was vegan, cruelty-free and Australian-made. The foundation delivers and is accessible anywhere, so when I run out and forget to purchase more, a quick dash to Kmart or Target and I was able to get my hands on my favourite foundation.
Then I experienced the quality and outstanding results from using IT Cosmetics foundation around two years ago now. It wasn’t an easy transition. I had to submit to the foundation first, by using it for small affairs. Going to the shops, visiting a friend for coffee. A subtle introduction to the foundation was what I needed before making the switch.
Of course, this isn’t a blame shame on Australis, as the foundation did deliver and I was never disappointed. But as my skin began to age, I could noticeably see I needed a more powerful foundation, one which would help my skin age better and unfortunately Australis wasn’t giving me what I needed.
So, it made sense that when I went to an IT Cosmetics launch and was introduced to the liquid foundation range, I instantly fell in love. Over the course of a month, I slowly began to switch my every day use foundation to IT and it was the best decision of my life. My skin has never been better and I always get complimented on how good I look. Trust me, it was the foundation.
With that being said, change can often be for the better, but of course, even now I often think back to my time spent with Australis and remember what a life we had together LOL. Here are a few other essential items in my beauty kit, I just can’t seem to separate from, no matter how hard I try.
- Edible Beauty Exotic Goddess Ageless Serum
- Luk Beautifood Lipstick
- The Body Shop Hand Cream in Coconut (yum)
- The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Blemish Treatment Oil
- Kat Von D Shade and light Eye Contour Palette
Starting with the oil, I have tried so many facial oils and this is the one I keep returning to. It is on the luxe side and I only use it at night to make sure the oil lasts for as many months as possible. Edible Beauty are an amazing brand and when I use this oil the scents are so soothing, it helps me sleep at night.
Luk Beautifood was created by food scientist Cindy Luken. The idea was to create lipsticks from food and she has succeeded in doing just that. Of course, I wouldn’t go serving up the lipstick for afternoon tea, but the amount of times we lick our lips in the day, rest assured, you ain’t swallowing any harmful chemicals with this lipstick.
The Body Shop handcream collections have always been my favourite, with coconut being the best. The scent is so refreshing and the moisture provided in their handcream formulas is outstanding. My hands are always soft and smooth, and of course smell like a tropical island.
The Body Shop Blemish treatment made from pure Tea Tree oil has been a favourite of mine for a while. It’s great for that time of the month when you need to dry up hormonal breakouts FAST. Dap at night and it’s almost gone by day. Almost. It dries the blemish fast and flakes it off, making skin heal faster and making me feel better about it.
Okay, so the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette by Kat Von D hasn’t been out for many many years, but ever since it’s a release a few years ago, I have been absolutely in love. Especially as the colours of this palette have been my go to shades for many years now. I have always been a semi smokey, dark brown eye shadow girl.
Though I did go through a stage when I was in my early twenties when I dabbled with colour. I always came back to your honest shades of brown and dark grey. So this palette has replaced many old ones for me and I use it pretty much every day.
