How To Make Your Own Microdermabrasion at Home

For many skin types, clinical microdermabrasion treatments can be damaging and are not for everyone.

So seeking a microdermabrasion treatment which is softer on the skin, can be done in the comfort of your own home, and is less harsh and damaging on the skin, is probably the best solution.

Especially if you have sensitive skin. Microdermabrasion is not recommended, as it can trigger other concerns in the skin, such as eczema and other skin irritations.

However, there are some great solutions to replace a clinical version of a micro treatment, with some brands like Rodan + Fields and Enbacci having released some great less damaging alternatives.

Or you can make your own.

The concept of micro is not too dissimilar to that of an enzyme mask, where the process is designed to deep cleanse dead skin cells from the pores to allow for new cells to regrow. Which is vitally important to painting good skin health, and ideal for acne and blemish prone skin types.

This recipe is easy to make. You don’t need many ingredients, and used once a week it will keep skin super clean, balanced and blemish free.

Here’s what you’ll need:

2 teaspoons of Bicarb of Soda (baking soda works too)
1/2 or 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (of course, if you skin is super sensitive, then skip this ingredient as it may irritate it)
1/2 teaspoon of water

This mask is a one time deal. So you only make it when you need to use it. The reason is, the water activated the bicarb, so when you apply it to the skin it will begin to fizzle and works to destroy dirt and bacteria and clear out dead skin cells.

Here’s how you make it:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and mix well until it form a decent paste
  2. Use your fingers to massage the paste onto the skin and then leave for around 5 minutes – max
  3. Rinse your face well after 5 minutes with warm water and you will instantly feel how soft and smooth your skin feels
  4. Use one a week or one a fortnight, depending how your skin responded

Remember to always patch test on the most sensitive part of your body, which is the inside of your wrist, to ensure you don’t have a reaction to the paste, before applying to your face.
